Great hair shouldn’t cost the earth.
Salons create a surprising amount of waste: hair clippings, foils, color tubes and leftover chemicals, plus a lot of water down the drain. Here’s what we do about it, every day.
About the Eco charge at checkout: every visit includes a $1 Eco charge. It goes toward everything on this page, from recycling our salon waste with Green Circle to our water-saving shower heads and the clean electricity that powers the salon.

Keeping salon waste out of landfills
We are a Green Circle Salons certified salon, recycling 95% of our waste. Green Circle collects what most salons throw away and gives it a second life:
- Hair clippings are turned into booms that soak up oil spills, or composted.
- Foils and color tubes are recycled as metal.
- Leftover color and chemicals are kept out of our waterways and safely processed.
- Paper, plastic and packaging are recycled.
Recovered in 2025, from our Green Circle certificate. Liquid waste is leftover hair color, developer and other salon chemicals.

Using less water every time we rinse
Both of our shampoo bowls are fitted with ECOHEADS, water-saving salon shower heads that cut the water and energy used for rinsing by as much as 65%, without changing how a good rinse feels.

Mixing only what we need
Recycling matters, but making less waste in the first place matters more.
Every custom color is mixed for one guest, and using a regular scale involves guesswork and creates unused color waste. Across thousands of visits, that adds up. Overmixing wastes chemicals, and it means paying for color you never use. So we weigh every formula with Vish, a color management system with connected scales that records how much color we mix and how much is left over. Your formula gets fine-tuned visit by visit, so we mix closer to exactly what your hair needs.

That means:
- Less color mixed, and less thrown away
- Fewer chemicals left over to recycle or dispose of
- Less product, and less packaging, to order
It also keeps a precise record of your formula, so your color can be matched exactly next time, and adjusted as your hair changes.
Powered by clean energy

The salon runs on electricity from CleanPowerSF, San Francisco’s not-for-profit clean energy program. PG&E still delivers the power over its lines, but the electricity itself comes from renewable sources like solar, wind and hydroelectric power instead of fossil fuels.
