When most people think of hair extensions, they think of length. And yes, extensions can completely transform the length of your hair—but that’s only the beginning.
Extensions can add volume to fine hair, create pops of color without bleach or permanent color, add a little sparkle, or simply give you more hair to work with. At Hairetics Salon in SOMA, we offer several types of hair extensions so we can choose the right method based on your hair, your lifestyle, and what you want to achieve.
What Can Hair Extensions Do?
Add Length
Ready for longer hair without waiting years for it to grow? Extensions can add noticeable length while still blending naturally with your own hair.
Add Volume
Extensions aren’t only for dramatic transformations. They can also add fullness to fine or lower-density hair, giving you more volume throughout your cut and style.
Add Color
Want pink, blue, violet, or another bold shade without bleaching your hair first? Synthetic extensions allow us to strategically place color without altering your natural hair. The synthetic fiber also doesn’t bleed color, so the shade stays where it’s placed.
Add a Little Sparkle
Hair tinsel adds subtle—or not-so-subtle—shimmer without changing your hair color. It can be added for an event, a particular season, or simply because you like it.
Have Fun!
Extensions make it possible to play with length, fullness, color, and texture without making every change permanent.
The Hair Extension Brands We Work With
The hair itself matters just as much as the installation method. At Hairetics, we work with Bellami, DreamCatchers, and Hair & Compounds, giving us options for different hair types, textures, and extension goals.
For our curly-haired guests, Hair & Compounds gives us options designed to better match and blend with natural curl patterns. Choosing hair that works with your natural texture is an important part of creating a result that looks and feels like it belongs there.
Hair Extension Methods at Hairetics
There isn’t one extension method that works best for everyone. Your natural hair, density, texture, desired result, and maintenance preferences all play a role in choosing the right option.
I-Tip Extensions
I-Tips are individual extension strands installed in small sections, giving us a lot of control over placement.
At Hairetics, we offer human hair I-Tips for natural-looking length and volume, as well as synthetic I-Tips for bright, non-bleeding pops of color. Tinsel can also be incorporated when you want to add some sparkle.
K-Tip Extensions
K-Tips are individually bonded extensions that can be customized in size to work with your natural hair and the result you’re trying to create.
Because the individual bonds allow for precise placement, K-Tips can be a great option when you want a customized approach to adding length and fullness.
Tape-In Extensions
Tape-in extensions use thin sections that lie flat against the head, making them a popular option for adding both length and volume.
We offer traditional tape-ins as well as tape-in wefts. During your consultation, we’ll help determine which option works best with your hair type, density, and desired result.
Beaded Foundation Wefts
For clients looking for a highly customized extension installation, we also offer beaded foundation wefts.
Options include hand-tied, Genius, and hybrid wefts, along with Volume and Flex installations. Your stylist will explain the differences and recommend an approach based on your natural hair and how much length or fullness you’d like to add.
Coming Soon: Custom Hair Toppers
We’re also expanding our extension services to include Mesh Mastery custom toppers for clients experiencing thinning hair or looking for additional coverage and fullness through the top of the head.
More information on this new service will be available soon.
Which Hair Extensions Are Right for You?
You don’t need to know the answer before you come in—that’s what the consultation is for.
During your hair extension consultation at our SOMA salon, we’ll look at your natural hair, talk about what you want to change, and discuss the maintenance involved with the different options. From subtle fullness to significantly longer hair or a streak of bright color, we’ll help you determine which method and hair will make the most sense.
Have inspiration photos? Bring them. They’re a great starting point for showing us what you have in mind.

Hair Extensions FAQ
How much do hair extensions cost in San Francisco?
The cost of hair extensions varies depending on the extension method, the amount of hair needed, your desired length, and the result you’re looking for. At your consultation, we’ll create a customized recommendation and go over pricing before moving forward.
How long do hair extensions last?
That depends on the extension method, your natural hair growth, your maintenance schedule, and how you care for your extensions at home. Your stylist will explain the maintenance and expected wear for the method you choose.
Do hair extensions damage your natural hair?
Proper application, maintenance, and removal are important for protecting the health of your natural hair. Choosing an extension method that’s appropriate for your hair type and density also matters, which is one reason we recommend starting with a consultation.
Can I add color without coloring my natural hair?
Yes! Synthetic I-Tip extensions are a fun way to add bright color without bleaching or coloring your natural hair. Because the synthetic fiber doesn’t bleed color, shades like pink, blue, and violet can be added exactly where you want them. Tinsel is another option if you’d rather add shimmer.
Do you offer hair extensions for curly hair?
Yes. We work with extension options for different hair textures, including Hair & Compounds for our curly-haired guests. During your consultation, we’ll look at your natural curl pattern and discuss the options available for creating the best blend.
Which hair extension method is best for me?
It depends on your natural hair, density, texture, lifestyle, maintenance preferences, and desired result. Hairetics offers I-Tips, K-Tips, tape-ins, and several types of beaded foundation wefts, giving us multiple options to work with. We’ll help you choose during your consultation.
Can I wash and style my hair with extensions?
Yes. You can wash and style your hair while wearing extensions, but proper at-home care helps protect both your extensions and your natural hair. We’ll give you specific care instructions based on the extension method you choose.
Do you offer hair extensions for thinning hair?
Depending on your hair and the areas where you’d like more fullness, some extension options may be appropriate. Hairetics is also adding Mesh Mastery custom toppers designed to provide additional coverage and fullness for thinning hair.
Do I need a consultation before getting hair extensions?
We recommend starting with a consultation. It gives us the opportunity to see your natural hair, understand what you want to achieve, discuss maintenance, and recommend the appropriate extension method before you commit.
